The analysis of the population dynamics of the species linked to the wetlands of the Casentino Forests Monte Falterona and Campigna National Park, in particular amphibians and butterflies, highlights the presence of various criticalities.

Thus the populations of Community interest of amphibians and butterflies have an irregular distribution due to various disturbance and threat factors, mainly due to the alteration and reduction of species habitats and reproduction sites.

Specific objectives of the LIFE WetFlyAmphibia project are:

• Improvement of the conservation status of populations of amphibians Yellow-bellied Ululon (Bombina variegata), Spectacled Salamander (Salamandrina terdigitata) and Great Crested Newt (Triturus carnifex) by strengthening populations, improving the conservation status of their habitats and creating new breeding areas
• Improving the conservation status of the butterfly populations Euplagia quadripunctaria* and Eriogaster catax by improving the conservation status of their habitats
• Improvement of the conservation status of open area wetlands (habitat 6430) and rare or unique botanical species associated with these areas with the aim of reducing the degree of threat to their extinction through exsitu conservation of germplasm, reproduction and vegetation restoration
• Increased public awareness of the conservation needs of amphibian and butterfly species.
